lt pitch to iowa voters...all in a final effort to win support heading into tomorrow night... good evening, and thanks for joining us. i jn wn.n this eve of the iowa caucuses, the state is crawling with presidential candidates. in the race on the republican side, donald trump and ted cruz are running first and second in the polls. right now, cruz is speaking at the iowa state fairgrounds for his final campaign rally.. the texas senator began the day attending church services in west des moines. he greeted worshipers at lutheran church of hope and told reporters heheeded he pasor's call to pray for his political opponents. and the g-o-p frontrunner finished his day campaigning in sioux city.. trump told the crowd that his daughter, ivanka, might be his key to winning in iowa

investigation of kirk blunck. the 62 year old architect was found dead at the "teachout building" he restored in the east village last sunday. police say these two came forward after seeing their pictures on the news and are now assisting in the investigation. authorities determined blunck died after falling down a flight of stairs and say there is no indication he'd been assaulted. all eyes across the nation and even around the world are focused on iowa.. coming up after the break... a look at if the iowa caucuses actually work, and what winning really means in this race to the white house...

their respective nominees through party-sponsored contests in each of the states and u.s. territories, a process that starts in february and takes up to five months. iowa and new hampshire traditionally kick off the process early in the year, and then other states follow -- but before that, candidates have typically spent a year laying the groundwork for campaigns in those regions. once each party has a candidate, they spend the rest of the summer and autumn campaigning until the general election on november 8. one reason they cost a lot is because they last so long. unlike some other countries, there are no rules on how early a candidate can start campaigning -- ted cruz officially announced he was running in march 2015, nearly 20 months before the election. also unlike some other countries, there's no limit on how much you can spend. a presidential campaign can cost up to $1 billion -- and that's not even counting money spent by outside groups. it's not cheap to travel across the country for two years or more, buy advertisements on television, and pay a small army of campaign workers. states have two ways of collecting their party members' votes when choosing a presidential

"caucuses." a "primary" is what most people traditionally think of when they imagine voting - people show up at a neighborhood polling place to vote for their candidate by ballot. a "caucus" is very different. it's a neighborhood event that requires several hours of active communal participation and debate, and takes place in the evening in a home or public space, depending on the size of the caucus location. iowa, which uses a minating process by virt of going first. resusnhese states provide a snapoof andidate's there are those who say we cannot defeat a corrupt political system and fix a rigged economy. but i believe we need to lift our vision above the obstacles in place and look to the american horizon.

the des moines metro. moderate to heavy snow is expected at times and wind speeds will increase as well. winds will be strong from the north-northeast at 15 to 25 mph, gusts to 35 mph. this will create very difficult driving conditions all day on tuesday and for the start of wednesday. a winter storm watch is in effect for those southwest and southeast of des moines until tuesday night. most of monday will remain dry for those caucusing around the state. light snow will begin falling late monday as the bigger system approaches but shouldn't be much of a problem for those driving home during the evening. the bigger problems will move in for the morning commute on tuesday. the majority of snow will fall during the morning on tuesday, tapering off by the late evening. exact snow totals will depend on where the rain/snow line sets up. if it slides north of the dsm metro, snow totals will be cut down significantly. that being said, right now snow totals are still expected to be in the

iowa's 9 game winning streak was snapped on thursday at maryland. even with the loss the hawks are still tied atop the big 10 with indiana. a chance to start a new streak today. back home taking on northwestern. after just 9 points against maryland jarrod uthoff bounces back. drops in the 3. just getting warmed up. tied at 7. more from uthoff. another from downtown. hawks lead 10-7.
